1. About This Notice

The Commonwealth Exchange Scholarship Council (“the Council,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to being transparent about how we use cookies and similar tracking technologies on our website and online application portal (together, “our website”).

This Cookie Notice explains what cookies are, which cookies we use, why we use them, and how you can manage your preferences. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which sets out the broader basis on which we handle your personal data.

We are headquartered in the United Kingdom and operate in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018, and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR).

2. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile phone) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, remember your preferences, and provide information to website owners.

Cookies set by the website owner (in this case, the Council) are called “first-party cookies.” Cookies set by parties other than the website owner are called “third-party cookies.” Third-party cookies may track your activity across multiple websites.

Cookies can be either:

Session cookies: Temporary cookies that are deleted from your device automatically when you close your browser. They enable the website to link your actions during a single browsing session.

Persistent cookies: Cookies that remain on your device for a set period after you close your browser. They are activated each time you revisit the website that created them.

Similar technologies such as web beacons, pixel tags, local storage, and scripts may function in an equivalent way to cookies. This Notice covers all such technologies collectively.

3. Who Sets Cookies on Our Website?

Cookies on our website may be set by:

  • The Council directly (first-party cookies): These manage site functionality, your session, and your preferences.
  • Trusted third-party providers (third-party cookies): These include analytics and security service providers whose tools we use to operate and improve our website. All third-party providers used by the Council are contractually bound to handle data in accordance with UK GDPR.
